PENGARUH PENYERAPAN AIR PENYERAPAN AIR TERHADAP KEKUATAN TARIK DAN KETANGGUHAN RETAK PADA PEREKAT EPOX
Adhesives are widely used for shipping industry, epoxy adhesive usually used as matrix
composite and adhesive on the structure hull. These sections are often exposed to water which
can affect the mechanical properties of epoxy. This study aims to determine the effect of
differences absorption distilled water and salt water into the epoxy adhesive specimens, as well
to determine the effect of the absorption distilled water and salt water to the tensile strength and
fracture toughness. Specimens made of epoxy adhesives, for water absorption was tested for
30 days with the aim of knowing absorption water into the specimen. Besides testing tensile and
fracture toughness with moisture content varied based on the immersion time at various days.
The specimens were stored in distilled water and salt water at 50° C, after it had performed
tensile and fracture toughness testing in accordance with the time of immersion. Research
results obtained water absorption value of the water content at distilled water absorbed higher
than salt water on tensile specimens and fracture toughness specimens. For tensile test
showed that immersion specimens tensile strength were lower than dry conditions. Meanwhile
fracture toughness test showed that immersion specimens were have higher value than dry
conditions.
