PENGARUH PENAMBAHAN SERAT BATANG PISANG KETIP DAN FILLER DEDAK PADI TERHADAP DENSITY, KEKUATAN BENDING DAN TARIK KOMPOSITCORE, SANDWICH DENGAN SKIN PLYWOOD
Composite is a material formed from the combination of two or more materials that have
stronger mechanical properties. Therefore, the manufacture of fiber-reinforced composite core
banana stems with additional filler of rice bran powder is a breakthrough for obtaining new
materials. The aim of this study is to analyze the effect of fiber volume fraction content with rice
bran filler to density, bending strength and tensile strength of sandwich composite.
Preparation of composite was done by hand lay-up method. Composite material used
by banana fiber and addition of rice bran powder with variation of fiber volume fraction of 7%,
10%, 13% werea bran of rice is constant 5% with random fiber direction. Tests conducted
refered to the density Test standard (ASTM C 271), Bending Test (ASTM C 393) and Tensile Test
(ASTM D3039).
Highest density was obtained at FVC7 with a value of 1.152 g/cm3 for core. While in
FVS7 with value 0,984 g/cm3. It can be concluded that the greater the volume fraction of banana
fiber, the lower the density value. The biggest strength bending test is FVS7 with 42.23 MPa
while the lowest value is in FVS13 with 24.21 MPa value. This means that the greater the fiber
volume volume, the lower the bending strength. While on tensile strength, the highest value was
found in FVC13 with value 19,733 N/mm² and the lowest value at FVC7 with value 15,815
N/mm². This means the bigger the volume fraction the higher the tensile stress value.
