INVESTIGASI PENGARUH FRAKSI VOLUME SERAT SABUT KELAPA DAN FIBERGLASS SEBAGAI SKIN DENGAN CORE SERBUK GERGAJI KAYU SENGON TERHADAP DENSITAS DAN KEKUATAN BENDING KOMPOSIT HIBRID SANDWICH
The purpose of this research is to know the effect of fraction of fiberglass volume as one skin and coconut fiber fraction volume as skin two to density and bending strength on hybrid sandwich composite material with sengon sawdust core. The main ingredient of this research is sengon wood sawdust, fiberglass, coconut fiber, unsaturated polyester resin and hardener. This experiment was testing the density (ASTM C 271) and bending (ASTM C 393). The hybrid composite sandwich was done by making the core composite wood sawdust sengon, composite fiberglass, composites coco fiber and matrix resin. The fibers directions were random, these cores were glued to the skin one (fiberglass) and skin two (coconut fiber) which has been cut according to size. Then the emphasis to the core with skin one and skin two experienced maximum adhesion, then allowed to stand for 2 hours. The specimens were cut according to the size of the bending test, the volume fraction of the fiber used was 10%, 20% and 30% with a fiber length of 10 mm.
The result of the research shows that the greater the volume fraction used, the greater the density. The highest density occurred in the fraction of skin volume of 30% and two skins 30% of 1.19 g / cm3. While the lowest density occurred in skin volume fraction of 10% and two 10% skin of 1.09 gr / cm3. In bending testing, there is an increase in bending strength as the volume fraction of fiber increases. The largest bending strength was obtained at the volume fraction of skin one 30% and skin two 20% of 25.19 MPa. Whereas the lowest bending strength was available at 10% of volume fractions of skin one and 10% skin two of 10.31 MPa.
