PEMANFAATAN NIRA BATANG SORGUM SEBAGAI BIOETANOL DENGAN VARIASI MASSA RAGI FERMENTASI DAN TEMPERATUR DISTILASI
As the development of the era of the need for energy sources increases, but this is not balanced with the availability of energy sources. Humans are still very dependent on fuel oil as an energy source. Petroleum is constantly being sought and taken in order to meet needs, as a result of decreasing petroleum supplies, the current energy crisis. To anticipate it, humans turn to bioenergy, the energy source produced by plants that contain lots of sugar, one of which is sorghum. This research aims to determine the effect of fermentation mass and distillation temperature as independent variables on alcohol content, specific gravity and bioethanol heating value as the dependent variable. In this study the fermentation mass used was 10 gr/l, 20 gr/l, and 30 gr/l while the distillation temperature was 70, 75, and 80 0C. Making bioethanol with sorghum juice is done by fermentation. In the manufacturing process each sample has a volume of 1 liter with a fermentation time of 3 days. From this research it was found that alcohol content increased with increasing distillation temperature. The highest alcohol content was obtained at 98.10 % while the lowest alcohol content was 93.35 %. Specivic gravity decreased with increasing distillation temperature and inversely proportional to the alcohol content obtained. The highest specific gravity is 0.8764, while the lowest is 0.7994. Calorific value increases with increasing distillation temperature. The highest calorific value was obtained at 24222.31 J/gr while the lowest was 14326.78 J/gr.
