EFEK PERENDAMAN NaOH DAN KOH TERHADAP SIFAT KEKUATAN TARIK DAN MORFOLOGI DARI KOMPOSIT BERPENGUAT SERBUK KULIT WARU (HIBISCUS TILIACEUST)
Composites made of fiber (fibrous composie) continue to be researched and developed to become an alternative material to replace metal materials, this is due to the nature of the fiber composite which is strong and has a lighter weight than metal. Composite composition consists of fiber or filler and matrix as the binding material. The aim of this study was to compare the tensile strength of composites reinforced with waru leather powder with alkaline NaOH and KOH treatment. The material used was waru leather powder with a polyester resin matrix, with a powder volume fraction of 5%, 10% and 20% with an alkaline treatment of 5% NaOH and 5% KOH with immersion for 2 hours, 4 hours, 6 hours and 8 hours. Tensile testing specimens and procedures refer to ASTM D3039 standard. The results of this study indicate the highest tensile strength with alkaline 5% NaOH treatment at 8 hours immersion with a 5% volume fraction of 33.33 MPa and the lowest tensile strength of 5% NaOH alkaline treatment at 2 hours immersion with 10% volume fraction of 22.97 MPa. While the highest tensile strength was 5% KOH alkaline treatment at 8 hours immersion with 10% volume fraction of 34.96 MPa and the lowest tensile strength was 5% KOH alkaline treatment at 6 hours immersion with 20% volume fraction of 21.96 MPa.
