SIFAT MEKANIS BETON AGREGAT KASAR DAUR ULANG METODE HEATING, GRINDING, DAN ACID SOLVENT
Concrete is a material that is very important and widely used in construction. One type of coarse
aggregate in concrete is recycled coarse aggregate (RCA) which produced from concrete waste.
Generally, waste of concrete can be originated by demolition of the old structures which can disturb the
balance of the environment. The problem in using RCA concrete is the quality of RCA due to bonding
mortar left on the surface of coarse aggregate. To cope the large amount of concrete waste, this study
examined the mechanical properties of concrete made using RCA with regard to the quality of RCA.
This study used heating, grinding, and acid solvent method. Where heating (heating) is useful
to facilitate the release of coarse aggregate from the concrete slab, followed by grinding (solution) using
Los Angeles machine to remove the coarse aggregate from the mortar, then continued again with the
acid solvent (soaking with acid solution) to help break the bonds of mortar remaining in the coarse
aggregate. This research will compare the mechanical properties of normal concrete with recycled
concrete. The mechanical properties were examined in this study consisted of compressive strength,
tensile strength and flexural strength of recycled concrete aggregate which includes the solve analysis,
density, specific gravity and water absorption..
Results shows that the quality of the normal coarse aggregate and recycled coarse aggregate
is not much different. The mechanical properties of concrete test results indicates that compared with
normal concrete with coarse aggregates, concrete with recycled coarse aggregate compressive strength
decreased by 4,3%, modulus of elasticity by 8,817%, tensile strength by 1,75%, and flexural strength
by 8,9%. The compressive strength of recycled coarse aggregate concrete is still eligible to be used as
an alternative to the normal coarse aggregate.
