PENGARUH VARIASI PANJANG SERAT DAN FRAKSI VOLUME FILLER TEMPURUNG KELAPA TERHADAP KEKUATAN BENDING DAN IMPACT KOMPOSIT POLYESTER BERPERKUAT SERAT IJUK
Composite is a combination of two or more materials which are arranged in a certain way to get new properties on the material results. Making the polyester composite reinforced arenga pinnata merr fiber with coconut shell powder filler is one way to get new material properties. This study aims to determine the nature of the bending strength and impact toughness of reinforced polyester composites arenga pinnata merr fiber with filler coconut shell powder.
Making the composite is done by compaction methods. Materials used in the manufacture of this composite is arenga pinnata merr fiber with filler coconut shell powder with the variation of fiber length of 10 mm, 30 mm, 50 mm and variations in filler volume fraction of 0%, 2,5%, 5% and 7,5%% and fiber direction random.. Tests were carried out based on ASTM D790 standards for bending test and ASTM D256 for impact testing, the methods used in impact testing is charpy method. To determine the significance of variations influence on filler volume fraction and fiber length is used Two Ways Analysis Of Variance (ANOVA).
From the results of this study can be concluded that the variations in the length of filler volume fraction and significant effect on the value of bending strength and impact toughness. In the bending test obtained the highest bending strength of 47,628 MPa at 50 mm fiber length of the filler volume fraction of 7,5%. And bending strength low of 28,094 MPa in fiber length of 10 mm with a filler volume fraction of 0%. While the value of the highest impact toughness at 8922,147 J/m2 on the fiber length of 50 mm with a filler volume fraction of 7,5% and the lowest impact toughness value that is equal to 4503,419J/m2 on the fiber length of 10 mm with a filler volume fraction of 0%
