PENGARUH PENAMBAHAN SQUARE CELLS HONEYCOMB PADA CORE POLYURETHANE RIGID FOAM TERHADAP KEKUATAN BENDING DAN TEKAN KOMPOSIT SANDWICH
Composite sandwich can be used as an alternative or substitute conventional metallic
materials that have strength and stiffness are promising, the density is low enough, the
resistance to free environment (corrosion). The use of waste as materials for composite
sandwich is a solution creatively to enhance the utility value of waste and is an effort to
reduce environmental pollution. This research material is waste paper buffalo, polyester
resin, liquid polyurethane and fiberglass. Buffalo paper waste is used as the main material
for the structure of honeycomb cores square cells. Length of square cells varied honeycomb
cells (10 mm, 20 mm, 27 mm and 40 mm). Square cells honeycomb structure further amplified
using polyester resin. After the polyurethane foam combined with square riqid honeycomb
cells through the process of casting. Composite sandwich is made with hand print method
(hand lay up). Bending strength testing of composite sandwich made with a three point
loading method (three point bending (TPB)) which refers to the standard ASTM C393-00.
Compressive testing of composite sandwich refers to the standard ASTM C365. Both tests are
carried out by using a Universal Testing Machine (UTM C0820/C).
The results showed that the smaller dimension (size) square cell honeycomb cells
produce a composite sandwich with density, bending strength and compressive strength are
higher. Density, bending strength and compressive strength of the composite obtained biggest
sandwich with sides of length variation of the honeycomb cells 10 mm square cells. A row of
352,89 kg/m3, 61,776 MPa and 1,957 Mpa.
