PENGARUH KETEBALAN DARI KOMPOSIT SANDWICH BERKULIT PLYWOOD BERINTI OPENED CELL FOAM BAMBU PADA KEKUATAN TEKAN DAN SHORT SHEAR BEAM
Developments in technology and science in recent encouraging composite materials are widely used in a variety of product applications. Composites are widely developed is a synthetic fiber reinforced polymers such as fiberglass and carbon fiber. However, synthetic fibers are not able to dust, so will burden the environment. Bamboo is a natural fiber that has good potential as a replacement for synthetic fibers, in addition to a fairly rapid growth, bamboo is also widely grown in the tropics and its source (overflow). Bamboo fiber can be made into the form of foam for use as the core of a composite sandwich. The purpose of this study was to determine the compressive strength of unidirectional thick foam cell opened and shear strength between the core and the shell-core composite sandwich opened cell foam skin of bamboo and plywood with short shear beam test.
In this research, the materials used are bamboo fiber and unsaturated polyester resin as matriks. Bamboo fiber is used as reinforcement, subjected to alkaline NaOH treatment (4% by weight) for 2 hours. Variations in composite thickness of 10 mm, 20 mm, 30 mm, and 40 mm where the same fiber volume fraction. Preparation of composites made with press molding method. Test of the test conducted is density, core thickness unidirectional compression test and test short beam shear. The results showed that the addition of a thick core of the increasingly improved compressive strength of composite. This is caused by the addition of density on the thicker composite so that the power of focus was more on the rise. Interlaminar strength between the core and the lower composite skins along with the addition ofthe thickness of the composite. This is caused by the addition of a thick composite impact on increasing the composite stiffness so that when the composite received a bending load, the bond between the core and the composite skin becomes faster realease and shear strength decreases
