KARAKTERISASI KETAHANAN NYALA API KOMPOSIT SANDWICH POLYESTER DIPERKUAT SERAT BATANG PISANG DAN SERAT DAUN NANAS BUAH DENGAN CORE TONGKOL JAGUNG
Various way to reduce the occurrence of fire incidents have been carried out, one of them with finding a replacement wood as raw materials of home and building with other alternative materials more fire resistant. Index flame is a picture that shows the flame rate properties of a material.
The purpose of this study was to determined the character and flame index composite sandwich reinforced banana’s stem fiber and pineapple-fruit’s leaf fiber with core of corn’s cob. The manufacture of composites made by hand lay-up method. Skin and core combined with the glue between them with polyester as an adhesive, where in the composite cylindrical core of corn cobs. sandwich composite’s skin is made of polyester resin as it is matrix, and fiber banana’s stem and pineapple-fruit leaf fiber as the reinforcement. The fiber is inserted in polyester resin with a volume fraction of 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, and 30%, as well as the composite without reinforcement or 0% fiber volume fraction. Character properties of composite sandwich flame obtained will compared with the character of the flame properties of existing Falcata so they can know the potential of composite materials were developed as an alternative materials of wood’s products.
The flame index longest sandwich composite obtained from composite sandwich reinforced pineapple-fruit leaf fiber random orientation by 30% volume fraction, with the index of 92,32 % flames. Index composite sandwich shortest flame obtained from composite sandwich without fiber reinforcement (0% fiber), with the index of 48,03 % flames.
