PENGARUH JENIS PLASTIK DAN JUMLAH PANAS YANG DISERAP OLEH AIR PENDINGIN TERHADAP SIFAT FISIK BAHAN BAKAR MINYAK DENGAN PROSES THERMAL CRACKING
Waste plastic is one of indication in the global-scale environmental contamination, especially in Indonesia, because plastic waste is difficult to be decomposed in the soil. One of ways to overcome it is by recycling the waste plastic. However, this way is not too effective, because there are only a few percent can be recycled, and the rest are piled on garbage shelters. The other way to solve the problem is by utilizing waste plastic to be processed into fuel oil by thermal cracking process.
This research is conducted to determine the influence of the type of waste plastic and the rate of heat transfer by cooling water with variated the diameter of heat exchanger (1/2 inch, 3/4 inch and 1 inch) on the physical properties of fuel oil produced by thermal cracking process. Physical properties are tested include density, viscosity and heat value.
From the results of testing, Tmax reactor, density and viscosity of fuel oil produced from any type of waste plastic decreased with increasing the diameter of the heat exchanger. However, the volume and heat value of the fuel produced increasingly. Generally, the physical properties of the fuel oil resulted from thermal cracking waste plastic were close enough to the physical properties of gasoline.
