PENGARUH PENGGUNAAN LIMBAH KARBIT SEBAGAI ADSORBEN PADA KATALITIK KONVERTER UNTUK MENURUNKAN EMISI GAS BUANG KENDARAAN BERMOTOR BERBAHAN BAKAR BENSIN
In last few years the amount of motor vehicle utilisation has increase significantly. This
bring negative impacts to the environment and causing more air pollution. One of the efforts made
to reduce the air pollution which is done in this research is by adding calcium carbide waste as a
adsorbent and acting as catalytic converter. To determine the effect of calcium carbide utilization
and determine the influence of the length of adsorbent in catalytic converters in reducing
emissions of motor vehicles. The method used in this research is create a model of the adsorption
unit from waste carbide with three variations differents length is (50, 100, and 150) mm. The
adsorber unit made then is installed on the modified exhaust manifold. It was tested on a one
cylinder 4 stroke gasoline motor vehicle "Supra X 100 cc" with operating conditions of 1400 rpm
on the neutral and 1 transmission. From the result it was that faund the effect of the use of calcium
carbide waste as adsorbent reduced the concentration of exhaust emissions. The longer adsorber
waste carbide used better emission reducing obtained. It is shown that CO, CO2, and HC
decreaseed in the concentrations of any variations of adsorber length. The higher decrease
occurred in adsorber with a length of 150 mm with the neutral transmission as well as 1
transmission. A decrease of 57.1% CO, CO2 58.21%, 49.87% HC with the neutral transmission
and 55.2% CO, 35.62% CO2, 78.7% HC with the 1 transmission. Were relatively batter compared
to those of without catalytic converters.
