Ergonomics Study on the Thread Rack Layout of the Balinese Endek Weaving Industry
Abstract—Balinese endek woven fabric is one of the nation's cultural wealth belonging Indonesia. Endek woven fabrics made of weft threads and warp yarns. Processes that occur in weft threads is the process that determines the motif design of endek. The preparation of endek woven fabric making process begins weft threads consists of the spools, midang, motives, coloring, and pengginciran, pemaletan. The second process is preparation of the warp yarns. The third process is adjustment of warp yarns, and the final process is weaving. All of those are included in the preparation process is a process midang the thread into the frame and the results will determine the size of the short length of endek, large and small size of the design motif endek fabric thickness. Midang is a work in repetitive, monotonous activity and it took seven hours to produce two to four frames of threads. From the result of survey, endek weaving industry, midang equipment layout does not comply with work processes and the position of craftsmen working. Craftsmen working with standing position for seven hours, the body of craftsmen among the shelves of yarn and frame so that the threads are connected to the frame through the body will penamplik crafters. The condition causes frequent repositioning crafters yarn rack, a standing position with a twist of the body to control the two fields of work. The working conditions of the above can cause cumulative trauma disorder (CTD). To cope with the layout of the equipment that still not ergonomic, and ergonomics study we conducted on the thread rack layout in order to reduce the occurrence of fatigue, and CTD in endek weaving industry.
