PENGARUH FRAKSI VOLUME SERAT KULIT JAGUNG TERHADAP KEKUATAN TARIK DAN PENYERAPAN AIR KOMPOSIT POLYURETHANE
Composite is one kind of material created by the merger of two or more kinds of materials that have different properties into one new material with different properties, one of which is the incorporation of resin with fiber. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of fraction of the composite fiber tensile strength and moisture absorption.
The main ingredient of this research is polyurethane as matiks and corn fiber as reinforcement (fiber). The research was done by mixing matrix composites with fibers, wherein the matrix used in this study is a polyurethane resin and fiber reinforcement of corn husk. But before corn fibers used as reinforcement in composites, fiber surface treatment is given in advance by performing immersion in a solution of NaOH for 2 hours, then the fiber rinsed clean NaOH solution and fiber sun dried. This experiment is tensile testing with ASTM D 3039 and tests of water absorption.
The results showed that the higher the fraction of the fiber of the specimen, the tensile strength of the specimen will increase but did not give a significant effect on tensile strength. The tensile strength of the lowest to the highest row in the specimen with fiber fraction of 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60% and 70% respectively of 1.68 MPa, 1.82 MPa, 1.99 MPa, 4.72 MPa, 7.08 MPa and 7.78 MPa. And for water absorption of specimens from highest to lowest in a row is in the specimen with fiber fraction of 70%, 20%, 50%, 30%, 60% and 40% respectively by 184.35%, 165.81 %, 165.10%, 161.65%, 144.09% and 136.10%.
Keywords: Polyurethane resin, corn fiber, fiber fraction, tensile strength and water absorption.
