PENGARUH VARIASI DIAMETER PAKU TERHADAP KEKUATAN SAMBUNGAN BALOK KAYU
For construction purposes in addition to meet the requirements of strength, rigidity and stability of structures, sometimes wood is required to have the long stretch enough, so it is necessary to design and grafting techniques with a variety of tools continued to be able to achieve a desired structure spans. Wood connections is a critical point or weakest contained in the structural elements of a building. Wood has a shear strength parallel fibers were small so easily broken when several instruments mounted adjacent grafting, by reason of the large diameter nails are not always able to provide a great resistance on the connection, because it causes a reduction in the effective cross-sectional area of wood to be joined. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of variations in the diameter of the nail on the capacity of the connection logs and determine the pattern of failure of the connection logs.
This study was preceded by testing the physical properties and mechanical properties of wood and followed by making four types of beams without and with the connection. On the tested object with 18 units mounted connection nail connecting tool with diameter variation used were 3.8 mm, 4.2 mm and 5.2 mm. Each variation of the test specimen was made of 5 pieces test specimen would be tested then using a strong bending flexure and Transverse Testing Machine with Two Point Loading method.
The results showed variations in the diameter of the nail to the strength of the connection logs do not provide a significant influence on the strength of the beam, the connection of the tool connecting nail on the variation of the diameter of 3.8 mm, 4.2 mm and 5.2 mm resulting load permits the beam decreased with the percentage decline in a row for 19%, 10% and 17% of the load of wood beams intact permission of 40.60 kg. The pattern of failures was the failure of flexure marked by a crack on the bottom edge of the beam.
