PENGARUH FRAKSI VOLUME SERAT BAMBU TERHADAP KEKUATAN TARIK, KEKUATAN GESER DAN PENYERAPAN AIR PADA KOMPOSIT SANDWICH BERINTI FOAM BAMBU
Utilization of natural fibers as the core to the natural composite sandwich has many advantages, but research is required in order to composite sandwich capable and worthy as an alternative to metal and plastic material. Metal material is less economical and the effect on the natural environment for exploration as well as plastics that can’t afford biodegradable and can last for hundreds of years in the environment. This is the underlying research about composite sandwich with core foam bamboo fiber that can replace metal and plastic material with natural fibers since bamboo is available in nature in abundance and is able to be recycled and renewable.
Composite sandwich with core foam bamboo fiber is made of bamboo as the main raw material of composite sandwich. Unsaturated polyester used as a binder matrix bamboo fibers and plywood into the skin on the composite sandwich. Among plywood skin and core pressure is applied for 24 hours in order to experience the process maximum adhesion. Variable fiber volume fraction to be a variation on this study is 10%, 15%, 20% and 25% by using a fiber length of 30 mm with random fiber direction.
The study of the physical properties of the composite sandwich with foam core bamboo fiber shows that these materials with water absorption to high levels reached 44.40% on a volume fraction of 10%. For the mechanical strength of the composite sandwich with foam core bamboo fiber refers to the tensile strength and shear strength. With the highest tensile strength of 0.44 N/mm2 is the volume fraction of 25%, while the highest for shear strength of 2.35 N/mm2 is the volume fraction 20%.
