PENGARUH VOLUME LIMBAH KARBIT SEBAGAI ADSORBEN PADA KATALITIK KONVERTER DALAM MENURUNKAN EMISI GAS BUANG YANG DIHASILKAN MESIN BENSIN 4 LANGKAH 1 SILINDER YAMAHA MIO M3 125CC
air is vital for human being on earth. Development in transportation sector not only provide positive impacts, but also bring negative impact for increasing the axardous emission as a result of an increase in number of vehicles. One of the ways to reduce the emissions is by utilization of waste. Calcium carbide is a promising waste as can be used to reduce vehicle emissions. It can be formed to granules and set up in a reactor which is then installed on exaust manifold.
This research used a gasoline single-cylinder four-stroke engine (Yamaha Mio M3 125cc). This research aims to determine the effect of variations of reactor volume of catalitic converter. Catalitic reactor volume has been made in three different lenght variations of 30mm, 60mm and 90mm. Data were collected on engine rotation of 1500 rpm with three repetitions for each different catalitic reactor volume.
Based on the data analysis it can be concluded that with increasing variations in catalitic reactor volume, the emissions were reduced compared to those of normal operating operation. It was showed that concentarions of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and hydro carbon were decreased after passing through catalitic converter. The higher decrease occured with a length of 90mm which performing a decrease of 68,42% for carbon monoxide, 50,27% for carbon dioxide and 144,61% for hydro carbon. This achiement was relatively better compared to those of without catalitic converter
