Penggunaan Arang Aktif dari Tempurung Kemiri Sebagai Adsorben untuk Menurunkan Emisi Gas Buang Kendaraan Bermotor Berbahan Bakar Bensin
Motor vehicle growth recently increased very rapidly. This obviously has an enormous impact on the environment that causes the higher air pollution. One of the efforts undertaken in this research is by utilizing the activated charcoal from the wasted candlenut shell as an adsorbent on the catalytic converter into the exhaust gas channel. This study aims to determine the ability of the activated charcoal from the shell of candlenut as an adsorbent in reducing exhaust emissions and to know the effect of oxygen addition on adsorbent in reducing exhaust emissions of CO, CO2, and HC of motor vehicles. In this research, the method used is to make the model of absorption unit of exhaust gas emission in the form of adsorbent from charcoal activated charcoal with 100 mm length, and oxygen with 1, 2 and 3 liter / minute flow rates. The adsorbent unit that has been manufactured is then mounted on a modified exhaust and then tested on a 4 "gasoline-fueled" Supra X 100cc "gasoline engine under operating conditions 1400 rpm on neutral transmission. The results obtained that the use of activated charcoal of hazelnut candlenut as an adsorbent capable of lowering vehicle exhaust emissions well. Unlike the case with the addition of oxygen is done only affects the percentage of volume of exhaust emissions. The ability of adsorbent activated charcoal in absorbing exhaust emissions well is evident from the concentration of CO, CO2, and HC exhaust emissions, each of which decreases. For each exhaust emission has a percentage decrease of 50.64% for CO emissions, 37.87% for CO2 emissions and 45.8% for HC emissions.
