PENGARUH KONSENTRASI NaOH DAN WAKTU PERENDAMAN PERLAKUAN PERMUKAAN SERAT TERHADAP KEKUATAN IMPACT KOMPOSIT SERAT BAMBU POLYESTER
One of the materials used for the manufacture of composite materials is natural fibers. One that can be used is bamboo. However, bamboo fibers have low compatibility to polymers, requiring surface treatment. The purpose of this research is to know the effect of NaOH concentration and the duration of immersion in bamboo fiber treatment on the impact strength of bamboo fiber modified polyester resin fibers with polystyrene in dry specimen condition and wet specimens. This research is done by experiment. In the manufacture of composite specimens of bamboo fiber apus (rope) with a fiber volume fraction of 40% and the matrix used is polyester resin modified with polystyrene from Styrofoam (2% by weight). Treatment of the surface of the fiber, using a solution of NaOH with concentrations: 0%, 4%, 8%, 12%, (weight), for 0.5 hours, 1 hour, 2 hours and room temperature temperature temperature (28oC) and 500C. The process of making composites by hand lay up and compression molding using a mold made of steel plate, with random fiber direction. The test is an impact test, referring to the ASTM D256 impact test standard. Data were analyzed using two way anova. Based on the results of dwifactor analysis of variance showed that the concentration of NaOH and bamboo fiber immersion time significantly influenced the impact strength of bamboo fiber composite / polyester resin, both for the treatment at 28oC and 50oC. In the temperature treatment of 28oC for dry conditions, at 8% NaOH concentration for all immersion times, with an increase of 31.92% for the immersion time of 0.5 hours and 40.97% for 2 hours of soaking time. For wet specimens, both treated at 28oC and 50oC, the impact strength also increases with increasing NaOH concentration, but the impact strength for wet conditions is generally higher than the impact strength in dry conditions. For wet conditions of impact strength at 50oC treatment temperature is better than treatment temperature 28oC.
