PENGARUH FRAKSI VOLUME FILLER (Fly ash, CaCO3, dan Semen) TERHADAP KEKUATAN TARIK EPOXY
Epoxy thermosets include polymer groups commonly used as adhesive coating materials, and as a matrix (binder) on composite materials. To increase certain properties (modulus of elasticity), the filler needs to be added. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the volume fraction on the tensile properties of epoxy for various fillers, fly ash, CaCO3, and cement. This research material is filler (fly ash, CaCO3, and cement), epoxy resin and epoxy hardener. The filler volume fraction used was 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25%. Tests carried out are tensile tests referring to ASTM D638. Parameters measured were tensile strength, elastic modulus, tensile toughness, and tensile strain. To determine the significance of the effect of the filler volume fraction, one-way variance analysis (ANOVA) was used. The results showed that for all fillers the tensile strength values generally tended to decrease with increasing filler content from the volume fraction of 5% to 25%. The biggest tensile strength is 48.51 MPa at a volume fraction of 0%. In fly ash fillers a sharp decrease in tensile strength occurs at 15% volume fraction which is 6.66% compared to a volume fraction of 0%. In cement the sharp decrease in tensile strength occurred in the volume fraction of 10% which was 5.67% compared to the volume fraction of 0%. Whereas in CaCO3 a large enough decrease occurs directly in the volume fraction of 5% which is equal to 14.8% compared to the volume fraction of 0%. Addition of the filler volume fraction to the epoxy increases the tensile modulus of its tensile strength, decreases its tensile toughness and decreases strain when broken for all types of fillers.
