Pengaruh Variasi Massa Gabah Terhadap Laju Pengeringan Gabah Menggunakan Alat Pengering Tipe Vertikal Kontinyu
Handling post grain harvest before being ground or stored for a long time is drying or reducing water content. It is intended that rice or grain that still has a high water content is not damaged due to microorganisms and other biological activities. According to the Indonesian National Standard Agency, harvested grain needs to be immediately crushed until it reaches a maximum moisture content of 14 % (SNI- 01-0224-1987). To dry the grain to be more effective is to use a mechanical dryer. In this study grain drying was carried out using a continuous vertical dryer by varying the mass of grain to determine the effect of grain mass variations on the rate of grain drying. The observed mass variation is 10 kg, 20 kg, 30 kg, with an air temperature of 60 ° C and air velocity of 5 m/s. The result is that the more grain mass is dried, the higher the drying rate and efficiency, but the longer the drying time and the lower the grain mass, the lower the drying rate and efficiency and the faster drying time. At the highest variation of mass, which is 30 kg, the highest drying rate is 0.00041550 kg/s but with the longest drying time is 80 minutes. While the lowest variation of grain mass is 10 kg, the lowest drying rate is 0.00023040 kg/s with the fastest drying time for 50 minutes. The highest efficiency occurs in a variation of 30 kg mass which is 3.27 % and the lowest efficiency occurs in a variation of 10 kg mass which is 1.85 %.
