Natural fibers are often considered as replacement fibers that are environmentally friendly compared to synthetic. applications from natural fibers develop in several sectors such as automotive, Furniture, packing and construction. The purpose of this study was to investigate the properties of the tensile strength and morphology of coconut bark fibers and banana stem fibers, which is treated alkaline Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) and Potassium hydroxide (KOH). with a concentration of 8% each and soaked for 2 hours. the results of the study show that the highest tensile strength analysis on coconut midrib fiber used by 8% NaOH was 338.94 MPa, In SKNA, high tensile strength was obtained because it was influenced by SEM analysis on the coarser fiber surface and the wax layer was lost due to the alkali process. For coconut midrib fiber obtained the tensile strength value at SKTP of 148.57 Mpa, SKNA of 338.94 MPa, and SKKA of 74.67 MPa. Whereas for banana stem fibers shows the results of the highest tensile strength analysis of banana stem fibers which are treated with 8% KOH with a value of 894.91 MPa, in SPKA obtained high tensile strength because it is influenced by the results of SEM analysis on coarser fiber surfaces and wax and cellulose layers that have been lost due to the alkali process. For banana stem fibers obtained the value of tensile strength on SPTP of 691.14 MPa, SPNA of 585.82 MPa, and SPKA of 894.91 MPa. From the data obtained, the alkali treatment of coconut mindrid and banana stems effects tensile strength, functional groups, crystallinity indeks and morphology.
