Pengaruh Heat Treatment Pada Komposit Al – Sic Yang Di Produksi Dengan Metalurgi Serbuk Terhadap Kekerasan Dan Struktur Mikro Dengan Metode Sintering
Composite is one type of material that structurally consists of two or more forming phases which are filler and matrix. The combination of Aluminium (Al) alloy and Silicon Carbide (SiC) ceramic is classified as composite material calledAMC(Aluminum Matrix Composites). One method to increase the hardness number of a material is by adding a hard material, such as, ceramics. Among the ceramics, Silicon Carbide (SiC) is the hardest one. The Silicon Carbide (SiC) compound can easily bond with Aluninium metal and do not cause oxidation to it. On the other hand, the oxide type of ceramic material, such as Al2O3 and ZrO3 are relatively hard and strong s well, however, the disadvantage is that it cannot bond with Al metal. The materials (objects) utilized in this research are Aluminium scrap and Silicon Carbide (SiC). The Aluminium scrap and the Silicon Carbide that had been sieved then weighed according to the following variations (combinations); First Variation contains 100% of Al and 0% of SiC, Second Variation contains 90% of Al and 10% ofSiC, Third Variation contains 80% of Al and 20% of SiC and lastly Fourth Variation contains 70% of Al and 30% of SiC.. Then heat treatmens were applied onto the composite for the duration of 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours temperature of 200º C The result of this research demonstrates that the highest hardness number was achieved by the variation with 30% addition of SiC with 3 hours of heat treatment with 47.02 kg/mm² hardness number. Meanwhile, the lowest value was on the variation with 0% of SiC with 0 hour of heat treatment with value of 22.05 kg/mm2. The more the addition of SiC and the duration of heat treatment tolerance can influence the hardness number and the micro structure the composite.
