PEMANFAATAN NIRA BATANG SORGUM Bioetanol Dari Nira Batang Sorgum Dengan Variasi Brix
The need for fuel oil as a source of energy every day is increasing, while the reserves of petroleum energy (fossils) are depleting, therefore, to meet fuel needs it is necessary to develop alternative fuels that are renewable and environmentally friendly. To anticipate it, humans turn to bioenergy, the energy source produced by plants that contain lots of sugar, one of which is sorghum. This study aims to determine the effect of using brix variations 14%, 16%, 18%, and 20% which are used as independent variables on alcohol content, acidity (pH), specific gravity, ethanol volume, flash and fire point, calorific value ethanol as a dependent variable. In this study the mass of fermented yeast used was 25 gr / l, while the distillation temperature was 80 0C. Making bioethanol with sorghum juice is done by fermentation. In the manufacturing process each sample has a volume of 2 liters with a fermentation time of 3 days. From this study, the highest ethanol content obtained was 70% using 16% brix content, while the lowest ethanol content was obtained at 20% brix variation which was 55%. The highest pH level was obtained at 14% brix concentration with an initial pH value of 5.05 while the lowest value was obtained at 20% brix variation with a pH value of 4.94. The specific gravity is inversely proportional to the alcohol content obtained. The highest specific gravity is in the 20% brix with the lowest value of 0,928241 and the lowest specific gravity obtained at the 16% brix variation of 0,87279. Calorific value is directly proportional to ethanol content, the highest calorific value is found in ethanol using 16% brix content with a heating value of 9849,136 J / gram and the lowest is with 20% brix content with a calorific value of 8978,864 J / gram. The highest flash and fire point values obtained were 51.6667 ᴼC and 55 ᴼC in the variation of 20% brix and the lowest was in 16% brix levels having flash and fire point values of 32.333 ᴼC and 32.3333 ᴼC.
