PENGARUH KANDUNGAN FILLER NANO-CaCO3 TERHADAP KEKUATAN GESER SAMBUNGAN BAJA KARBON METODE ADHESIVE BONDING DALAM LINGKUNGAN KERING DAN BASAH
The nano-sized CaCO3 filler material has unique
properties caused by the large surface or mixed surface
fraction with epoxy adhesives that can change the
adhesive properties, especially viscosity, water
absorption properties and increase adhesive strength.
Therefore nano-CaCO3 filler is used as an epoxy
adhesive mixture. The purpose of this study is to know
the effect of nano-CaCO3 fillers toward the shear
strength of carbon steel connections in dry and wet
environments.
The connection was made from carbon steel
with epoxy as an adhesive. Heavy fractions of fillers
nano-CaCO3 in adhesives 0%, 1%, 3%, 5%. The
specimens were put into an oven for curing process with
a temperature of 100oC for 1 hour then be continued by
soaking for 70 days in distilled water at 28oC, 45oC and
55oC. The specimens were then shear tested in dry and
wet conditions.
The test results show that in dry and immersion
conditions at temperatures of 28oC and 45oC the highest
shear strength of the joints at 1 % nano-CaCO3 content
was 18,64 MPa, 21,35 MPa, 19,98 MPa. Whereas in the
55oC immersion conditions the highest shear strength in
the 5% nano-CaCO3 content was 13,78 MPa. Of all the
conditions, the best performance of the adhesive
occurred at 28oC while the worst performance was at
55oC. Overall adhesive failure in dry and wet conditions
is interfacial, where interfacial failure can occurred in one
side and two sides for all types of adhesives.
